Use That Computer!: Teacher's Guide for Classroom Success
Published in Paperback by Incentive Pubns (January, 2001)
Authors: Lucinda L. Johnston, James Forde, J. Howard Johnston, and Lucinda L. Johnston
Average review score:

Most Useful Book for Teachers
In the past month, I have visited almost 20 orphanages that have been gifted with from 2 to 20 computers by well-meaning supporters of their schools. Now the administrators and teachers of these schools can stop fumbling with their new assets, because I am going to gift each one with a copy of this wonderful book. And if the publisher will produce a Spanish-language version for my many friends in Latin America, my joy will be complete!

The Useful Wild Plants of Texas, the Southeastern and Southwestern United States, the Southern Plains, and Northern Mexico
Published in Hardcover by Useful Wild Plants Inc (June, 1995)
Authors: Scooter Cheatham, Marshall Conring Johnston, and Lynn Marshall
Average review score:

A must have!
Definitely a must have for those interested in plants! You'll never look at the "weeds" around your house the same again :)

Extremely in depth coverage of plants from Abronia spp. to Arundo spp. is given, including all manners of uses from culinary to utilitarian. (Other genuses are to be covered in future volumes.) The book is full of wonderful color photographs of all the plants covered - usually several per plant. There are wide margins listing the various uses of the plants (pointing out their discussion in the text), location diagrams of where the plants are found and more.

Although the book covers only the areas described in the title, anyone with more than a fleeting interest in useful plants is sure to appreciate this book - no matter where they might reside.

The book is steeply priced for sure, but once you open it you will understand why. It is extremely well researched, a fact that is very evident throughout the text. Also, as mentioned above, the book abounds with gorgeous color photographs. Had the book not been a gift, I would have gladly paid twice the price for it.

The next volume(s) couldn't come fast enough for me. I am beginning to get a bit worried though as to the future of the series since I obtained my copy in 1996 and haven't heard anything on newer volumes... Even if this is the only volume that comes out it is still definitely worth the purchase.

Congratulations on a wonderful book to Scooter Cheatham and Marshall C. Johnston.

--> Update: The second volume did come out! If you can believe it, it's even better than this one! :D

Great Book
I m new to Geostatistics but this book has taught me some of the basic fundamentals of geostatistics. I consider this book as the good book to start geostatistics which is considered as a pretty hard field to understand.

I admire the work of the author.

The Wagon
Published in Paperback by Mulberry Books (April, 1999)
Authors: Tony Johnston and James E. Ransome
Average review score:

Born a slave, a boy is freed at the end of the Civil War.
A twelve year old boy experiences the joy and pain of freedom when the Civil War ends, he and his family are set free, and Lincoln is assassinated. The cadence of the language evokes the rhythm of a spiritual and the illustrations provide rich interpretation of the story. Winner of the Simon Wiesenthal Children's Book Award, The Wagon is a valuable addition to school libraries. The quiet dignity of the family, the social justice of freedom counterbalanced by the tragic assassination of Lincoln, and the search for a new life are ever important themes to present to children.

What Every Boss Needs to Know, or Learning to Keep Your Frog in Your Pocket
Published in Paperback by Job Talk, LLC (June, 2001)
Authors: Wallace Johnston and Linda Martin
Average review score:

To Be a Great Boss ...
Dr. Johnston and Ms. Martin provide simple, straightforward, and very practical advice on how to be a great "boss" (their term for anyone who manages people). Their "Performance Formula" would be helpful for any boss - especially new or relatively new ones - to think about and plan for the particular circumstances and challenges they face with their people. The book would also provide an excellent foundation for a supervisor training or management development program. Their metaphor of the frog is very instructive and quite memorable!
